Fly agaric
Amanita muscaria var. muscaria
Highly distinctive, poisonous fungus with wart-like raised white scales. Red or orange-red cap gradually grows to 7-15cm and flattens and fades to orange-yellow with age. Both gills and bulbous-based stalk are white.
Habitat: in woodland or associated with single trees. Most often found with species of birch and pine.
Distribution: common and widespread throughout the UK.
